Unless you're Native American, your ancestors came here from somewhere else, a process called immigration. Once here, they had the option to go through the process of naturalization in order become a citizen. This class will be a combined lecture and workshop on immigration and naturalization records. Included will be:
- A brief history of immigration and naturalization in the United States
- Common immigration routes
- Common types of immigration records
- Common types of naturalization records

The involvement of our ancestors with the court system is often more extensive than we might believe. Whether a civil case or a criminal case, whether as the plaintiff or the defendant, whether over a strayed cow or the murder of an unfaithful spouse, our ancestors made their way into court records. This class will be a combined lecture and workshop on court records. Included will be:
- A BRIEF overview of the court system
- Special considerations with regard to women in the court system
- Types of court records commonly used by genealogists, including wills, other probate records, guardianships, order books, minute books, and civil and criminal court dockets
- Finding and accessing court records
